The Hatmakers by Tamzin Merchant & Paola Escobar (2021)

They’re people who make hats that can be made with alchemy and enchantment, which is a rare and old skill that only a few people still have. Her father Prospero often has to take the ship he owns, The Jolly Bonnet, to get the magical ingredients for hat making. But this time, his ship is gone. Cordelia wants to find him, but there is a Maker rivalry and a possible war in the works.
Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan (2021)

This book by Rick Riordan, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, is for people who like the book by Jules Verne. At Harding-Pencroft Academy, which is a high school that makes the best marine scientists, naval warriors, navigators, and underwater explorers in the world, the story is about freshman Ana Dakkar. At the end of the school year, she and her friends go on a top-secret trial at sea. Pupils are on a bus ride when they see a terrible accident and start a dangerous search for answers.
The Primrose Railway Children by Jacqueline Wilson & Rachael Dean (2021)

We have to move to a small cottage in the middle of nowhere with Phoebe, Perry, and Becks. Their dad has gone away, and their mom thinks this is the best thing for them all. There is a train station near where the kids live, and it has some of the best steam trains! Phoebe can’t help but wonder where her dad went, even though it’s a good thing to do. E. Nesbit’s classic book, The Railway Children, was the inspiration for this heartwarming story about family secrets and train adventures. It should be on every bookshelf.
Kay’s Marvellous Medicine by Adam Kay & Henry Paker (2021)

We learned a lot about how the human body works in Kay’s Anatomy. It was then that doctors didn’t know as much about how our bodies worked as they do now. Adam Kay, a former doctor, is now taking us back to that time. Did you know that it used to be against the law for medical students to cut up anyone? And did you know that doctors used to do surgery without any anesthetic? You should be able to eat a lot.
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett (1911)

Having lost both of her parents, Mary Lennox, 10, is sent from her home in India to live with her uncle in a bleak manor on the Yorkshire Moors. Mary is spoiled and rude, but she is also very lonely. She goes to her uncle’s house one day because she’s bored. She finds an old key that opens the door to a secret garden. The young orphan, like Mary, is left alone. He tends to the garden and learns about the power of kindness.
Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie (1911)

If you can think of it, you’ll find it in Neverland if you look hard enough. There are some books that really make people think outside the box, and Peter Pan is one of them. They take the three Darling children across the rooftops of London and to Neverland in this amazing coming-of-age story. Meet pirates, fairies, mermaids, and everything else you can think of as you travel through Neverland with the Darling children.
The Unadoptables by Hana Tooke & Ayesha L. Rubio (2020)

There are rules at the Little Tulip Orphanage in Amsterdam that must never be broken. In the beginning, five babies were left in a coffin-shaped basket, a toolbox, a hamper with clothes inside, a coal bucket, a wheat sack, and a coal bucket with a lid. Children have lived together for years, but a sinister man wants to split them up. There is a question about whether the orphans will be able to live their lives on the run. A powerful book about the power of friendship and what it means to be a family.
Death Sets Sail by Robin Stevens (2020)

Daisy and Hazel are leaving for Egypt. Murder breaks out on the ship where they are on vacation, and it turns what was supposed to be a wonderful trip into something much worse. Do they have what it takes to solve their most difficult case yet? Join the girls on their last mission. It’s the perfect way to say goodbye to these two best friends.
